Dental Lab : For Crowns, Bridges, Dentures, and More

When you visit the dentist for a checkup you will only see a small part of what really goes on. A dentist will check your teeth, take x-rays, and carry out simple treatments such as fillings and cleaning. But when you need dentures or a crown and bridge treatment, impressions of your teeth and gums will be taken. This will be sent away to your local dental lab or onsite facility. A dental lab works hard to make the precise parts you need for your mouth and smile. So, let’s take a look at two of the most common treatments. Dentures and Crown and Bridge.

Dental Lab

Dental Lab : Dentures

Wearing dentures is a way to improve your smile when you have a lot of missing teeth. A partial denture or a full set will be recommended by your dentist depending on the overall hygiene of your mouth and your remaining teeth. It is common nowadays to opt for implants instead of false teeth. But it is an expensive option and one that also involves screwing into your gums. In fact, not all people can actually have implants. So, if your dentist has recommended dentures, here’s what will happen.

First of all impressions of your teeth and gums will be made and sent away to your local dental lab. Any rotten teeth that cannot be saved with fillings or root canal treatments will be removed at this stage. It will take around six weeks for your gums to heal completely, so this will be the approximate delay for your dentures being ready. Once your dentures are ready and back from the lab you will visit the dentist for a preliminary fitting. Here, any small adjustments can be made. If the dentures are ill-fitting they may be sent back to the lab for further adjustment.

Crown and Bridge

If you only have a few teeth missing, then a crown and bridge is a great option that means you can avoid wearing false teeth. A bridge can cover a gap of two or three missing teeth, just as long as there are natural teeth or crowned teeth there to support the bridge. The abutment teeth must be in good health to ensure that the bridge stays in place correctly.

Once again, your dental laboratory will receive impressions of your teeth and gums. This allows them to get to work making a bridge that will fit comfortably in your mouth and allow you to smile in the same way you do with natural teeth.
